Hands-on Workshops
The Chair for Algebra and Representation Theory is offering the Hands-On Workshops Analysis I and Linear Algebra I in the Winter Term 2023/24.
The Hands-On Workshops are supplements to the lectures of the first two semesters. Their purpose is to improve the level of understanding of these lectures. Each week, we publish a worksheet that is to be worked on during that week. They cover alternately the contents of the lectures Analysis I and Linear Algebra I, concretize the concepts of those lectures in carefully chosen examples and realize them via the computer algebra system Julia.
The understanding of each worksheet will be checked in short, weakly, oral tests, which are not graded but have to be passed. Hereby we will automatically exercise the use of correct mathematical terminology and presentation skills. Small mistakes and inaccuracies may be corrected in the following test. If a test is not passed, it has to be repeated during the lecture-free period.
In the computer rooms, the are student assistants helping with questions about the worksheets. The exact dates will be published in the moodle-course. We strongly encourage students to use these question sessions to get into conversations with other students, to form study groups and to work on the sheets collaboratively.
Further information on the Hands-On Workshops will be available in RWTHmoodle upon registration in RWTHonline.
Important: Please note that the Hands-On Workshops Analysis I are part of the module Analysis I. The same holds true for the Hands-On Workshops Lineare Algebra I. Thus, with regard to the examination regulations the Hands-On Workshops are independent of the lectures, exercises, and exams. It is hence possible to attend and/or pass all module parts separately. It is, therefore, necessary to register for multiple courses in RWTHonline at the beginning of the semester (at least: Exercises Analysis I, Hands-On Workshops Analysis I, Exercises Lineare Algebra I, Hands-On Workshops Lineare Algebra I). We strongly recommend taking these courses simultaneously.
